Sterling Silver and Gold-Filled Jewelry Care

Sweet Sparkle Designs handcrafted and personalized jewelry is created using high quality materials including sterling silver beads and components, sterling silver alphabet blocks (4.5mm & 5.5mm), Swarovski® crystals, Swarovski® crystal pearls, and freshwater pearls.  Appropriate jewelry care and jewelry cleaning instructions are included below and in the gift box for Sweet Sparkle Designs orders.

Sterling silver jewelry can last a lifetime when given appropriate care. Dulling tarnish occurs naturally over time when silver is exposed to the air, but it is easy to keep your silver sparkling by following these tips:

• Proper Storage: Store silver in a protective cloth or anti-tarnish bag separate from sharp or abrasive objects to minimize damage and/or scratching. Plastic zip sealed bags are also effective if the air is pressed out prior to sealing.  Avoid storing on wood finishes – these can contain damaging chemicals. Do not store in direct sunlight. A complimentary storage baggie is included in every Sweet Sparkle Designs order!

• Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Exposing jewelry to household chemicals such as bleach, ammonia, and chlorine can damage the finish. Also remove jewelry prior to swimming in chlorinated water, salt water, or mineral springs.

• Cleaning Tips: Clean silver components regularly.  Tarnish is easiest to remove in the early stages. Except for sterling stardust beads (as noted below), avoid use of liquid cleaners.  Clean silver beads by gently rubbing with a soft polishing cloth designed for use on silver.  *Do not use a polishing cloth on sterling stardust beads (textured glittery sterling beads). Liquid silver cleaners may be best for cleaning this specially textured bead.   Gently and softly brush using an old soft toothbrush or jewelry cleaning brush.  A complimentary silver polishing cloth is included in every Sweet Sparkle Designs order!

A mini Brilliant!® polishing cloth is included all jewelry orders containing precious metals. These cloths are a Sweet Sparkle favorite for use on precious metals like sterling silver and gold-filled jewelry.

Handcrafted Swarovski® Crystal Jewelry Care

Swarovski® crystals may be cleaned by gently wiping with a cotton swab dipped in warm soapy water.  Never use a toothbrush or ultrasonic cleaner. Allow to air-dry overnight if possible.

Swarovski® crystal pearls should not be washed.  If soiled, rub gently with a soft chemical-free polishing cloth.
